Unit 2: Masterful Inspirations
Students learn by researching, looking closely at one photographer and sharing what they have learned from photographers who are considered masters of their craft. You will present using the first person in the format of an imovie.
Photography is a relatively young art that began around 1839.
Who are some of the masters in photography who have left their mark during this time and what is their story? What factors make a photograph iconic and memorable? What is personal style?
Learning and looking closely at other master photographs helps us develop our own vision about the way we “edit” and pay attention to our world.
Choose a photographer to research on the internet and in books. You will respond by creating an imovie presentation with your voice narrating as the famous photographer. You will relate his or her story through using the first person “I”. Begin by gathering some good quotes, images, personal stories that inspired you as you learned about them. What part of the world are these photographers from and what was going on then? Pick at least 10 photos that you consider a good representation of his/her work. Creativity counts! Go to youtube and see if there is a video on your photographer. Remember becoming a better photographer means also acquiring a good eye for details and design. Be willing to take some risks, be brave and relate for us what your photographer was all about in his or her own words, images and with enthusiasm.

Research the answer to the following questions and include in your narrative:
- Where are you from?
- What formal education/training did you have?
- What are your inspirations?
- What motivated you to take your photographs?
- Where did you photograph?
- What equipment did you use?
- What was happening locally, nationally, internationally during the time you did most of your photographing?
- How did that influence your work?
