Manual 101: UnDerstanding your camera
Why Learn to shoot in Manual (M) mode?
In manual mode you have full control of everything: aperture, shutter speed, ISO, white balance, auto focus and picture style. This gives you full power over your camera.
While shooting in Manual (M) Mode, you will have to control all 3 aspects of the exposure triangle: ISO, Shutter & Aperture, and make sure that they are all properly balanced to give you a correct exposure.
Remember:
While shooting in Manual (M) Mode, you will have to control all 3 aspects of the exposure triangle: ISO, Shutter & Aperture, and make sure that they are all properly balanced to give you a correct exposure.
Remember:
- ISO controls your camera's sensitivity to light and image quality (noise)
- Shutter controls your exposure and how you capture motion
- Aperture controls your exposure and depth of field
What DOES 'EXPOSURE' refer to?
In photography, exposure is the amount of light per unit area (the image plane illuminance times the exposure time) reaching a photographic film or electronic image sensor, as determined by shutter speed, lens aperture and scene luminance.
When there is too little light, then the photo is underexposed. When there is too much light, then it is overexposed. As a photographer, your aim to take photos that are perfectly, or correctly exposed.

5. Create a DIPTYCH or a TRIPTYCH images must be shot in Manual Mode
What is a Diptych or a Triptych?
Diptychs and triptychs are a brilliant tool for photographic storytelling. They present two or three images which can be from the same session or they can be polar opposites to show opposition or contrasting ideas.
You must choose 1 theme and 1 Genre of photography to focus on for this.
Your Diptych or Triptych should focus on 1 of the themes below:
-ZOOM (getting close to a subject)
-Storytelling (do you want to tell a story? about a particular person? about a particular object? you all tried out storytelling in 1 object/30 times.)
-Visual Connections (do you want to make a visual connection of 2 very different photos by placing them side by side. Remember, there must be a unifying element(s) to these selected photos....)
-Time Lapse (showing a series of events as time goes by)
